While seemingly endless stretches of the Riviera Maya Riviera have become a sea of all-inclusive mega resorts, Puerto Morelos is a welcome departure. This quaint little Mexican village is home to almost no huge developments, no shopping outlets, and no chain restaurants.
Some say visiting Puerto Morelos is magical, and a bit like traveling back in time for an “old Mexico” experience.
The city is built around a palm-lined town square, several quaint cafes, and local beach shops. You won’t have to wander far to find something to eat or a refreshing Cerveza to enjoy.
Especially if you’re traveling with kids, Puerto Morelos is a great option for a beach vacation home base. After a few days lounging on the beach, the family might be ready to explore. Here are a few fun things to do in Puerto Morelos Mexico with kids.

Following a morning in the sun, the whole family will love exploring the well-shaded Crococun Zoo. The tour is only about one hour, making it a perfect stop for families looking to stretch legs and burn off a little energy. Crococun is located right on the main highway near the turn-off towards Puerto Morelos town. You can’t miss it.
This small, interactive zoo is a perfect opportunity for kids to get up close and personal with a range of different species including the almost extinct Yucatecan crocodile. Be sure to get a feeding bag when you purchase your admission tickets, as there are a few animals in the zoo that kids can actually hand feed, such as the Yucatecan Deer.

Travelers from throughout the Riviera Maya come to Puerto Morelos to experience snorkeling on the spectacular barrier reef. The beaches along the Riviera Maya are special because there is a coral reef located very close to shore, especially close in Puerto Morelos, making this an ideal excursion with younger children as the boat ride is only a few minutes.
